What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of allied health medicine that seeks to optimise the body’s natural healing ability, using a holistic approach to thinking. Osteopaths are allied health professionals (5 years university trained) who focus on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions/injuries.

Osteopaths have an expertise in pain/injury diagnosis and management. They often utilise manual therapy techniques to help assist the body feel its best self. Their holistic approach aims to modulate pain/tension via manual therapy, mobilisations, spinal manipulation, exercise rehabilitation and education.

Located inside Project Reform, Dr Jackson Redfern is a qualified osteopath with a passion & experience in managing sports/gym related pain & injuries. Jackson is also in the process of being accredited as a strength & conditioning coach, which will really complement his osteopathy qualifications. Something exciting that Jackson has inside The Reform Lab Osteopathy are the renowned sports science testing equipment from VALD. Using these systems it can calculate how high you jump, how powerful/strong your muscle groups are, if you have any asymmetries, and much more.

Jackson’s main priority is to educate you on your injury and provide you with reassurance that you can continue to train. He will program a rehabilitation program and provide guidance on what exercises or activities you will need to modify in the short term. He educates that complete rest is not advised, and always provides exercise options that resemble your normal activities. The reason he has this philosophy is because he wants you to return to normal activity in the best shape possible. Ultimately, providing rehabilitation options that mitigate the risk of sustaining that injury again.

Jackson communicates the rehab plan with all coaches you may have, and what exercises we can continue to train without limitation due to your injury.

Jackson is also passionate about getting people back into running without pain, for this reason he began our social run club The Reformed Runner who run Sunday mornings. Get fitter, make friends, find a passion for running, be educated about running and enjoy the post coffee run!
